WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF PENNAN BRAE – A thrilling world, made of compelling music, which deploys lush arrangements, roaming guitars, and a rich, driving hint.

Utterly fascinated by everything about space, galaxies, and the tantalizing sound of the 70s and the 80s, Brae has created a flourishing collection of singles, videos, and albums. And he also found time to write and make two independent films.

Among these, we have selected another gold nugget from his laudable catalog. We are talking about ‘Crashland,’ the lead single off of ‘The Astronot’ soundtrack, one of the two independent feature-length film penned by Pennan.

The lead single features legendary drummer Steve Ferrone, who played on the aces’ poker table like Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, Eric Clapton, and Duran Duran, and INXS’ bass-trick-dealer Garry Gary Beers.

Co-written with Grammy-nominated artist Eric Alexandrakis and produced by Paul David Hager, the song was mastered by Grammy-winning engineer Emily Lazar at The Lodge Mastering.

Enough to pump your wow factor? For us, it is way beyond! So, let’s dive into it.

The music video features footage from the film and is directed by award-winning Far From Earth Films director Tim Cash.

A very top-notch production, compelling and engaging thanks to the brilliant arrangement and composition, the whole piece is definitely taken to an even higher level by the impeccable chisel of a meticulous mix and a formidable mastering.

Iconoclastic, rock-n-roll right down to the beards, the familiarity of style and genre that we can find in this issue is something very refreshing. Whether we’re watching the video or listening to the song, you can truly “suck” a delicious nectar, a testosteronic energy drink capable of toning muscles, neurons, and spirit.

The vivid vitality that Brae is showing off with his works is definitely a signpost that is digging a groove that starts somewhere in the age of 70s music and runs straight ahead like on a monorail into the present day.

The physicality of the sound is vividly palpable, even though the sound spectrum is not screaming loudly, desperately pushing the limiter to win in the loudness war.

The focus with which everything is balanced and brought to the fore exactly what and when it is needed is commendable. The track debuted a couple of years ago. The video followed in July 2020. Yet there is a dynamism and freshness to “Crashland” that seems to blossom and sprout from a freshly planted seed.

You can feel it and see it grow in front of you. Inside you. Dressed up as an astronaut, the most skeptical would like to brand him as a deluded fool, visionary, while “howling” craving at the moon. Yet even in “Crashland,” what makes the difference, alongside the legendary names we mentioned above, is also that of Brae.

An Astronot of indefatigable optimism. Maybe a dreamer, but one who already has the moon in his pocket.

And then, perhaps the fools who still pining away with missed dreams, failed ambitions, and ruinous winnings are others.
