Off The Great Dictators new album ‘One Eye Opener’, arise the 7-minute «grandeur» opera of electronic melodic rock ‘Trees Come From Hell’.
Immersing us in atmospheric sounds imbued with a shining sense of melancholy, ‘Creep For Life’ makes us swing between sawed spacey synthesizers, distorted samples and a heartbeat rhythm, composing an electronic sound that is saturated and luxuriant with cinematic shadows.
So the songwriter of the Danish band Dragut Lugalzagosi introduces us to their work, inspired by the aesthetic end of artists such as The Psychedelic Furs and Kraftwerk and to a film composer in particular: “This song is our humble tribute to the great Jóhann Jóhannson. His soundcapes are always a big inspiration and also during the recording of ‘Creep For Life’. The lyrics tell a tale of a dysfunctional family where love and trust are illusions trying to stab you in the back. Some might say that family is a divine blessing. It can also be a hellish curse for life and we shouldn’t be afraid to talk about it. The song finishes with a noisy blast resembling a much needed exorcism, so maybe it’s a happy ending.”
The heady listening experience that The Great Dictators brings us with this latest single denotes the degree of expressive maturity now achieved by the band. The interlacing woven by the sensitive streams of ‘Creep For Life’ makes us imagine a black solar sail, that draws propulsive force not from light but from darkness. It chews it, digests it, metabolizes it, , and then molds it into a dense and plastic protoplasm that creeps under our skin and flows into our veins, becoming part of our self.
