Nicky Smirk is a hip-hop artist from Auckland, New Zealand. Born in 1993, he started moving his steps on the music scene as a freestyle rapper for 1OUTS Street Battles. At the age of 18, he was already opening for international acts such as Tech N9ne, Obie Trice, Devilman, and Merkules.
His previous releases, which can be found on YouTube and on all the other main streaming platforms, have led him to sign collaborations with 4Sayken, Gemma Celeste, Qualen Mathlay and Theebelovedcpt, and Raxmane, just to name a few.
Inspired from a young age by artists such as Slim Shady, Hopsin, and Dr Dres, Nicky Smirk has been able to build his own style over time, which has increasingly become one with freestyling. As Smirk himself tells us: “I love freestyling and can basically freestyle about any topic you hand before me.”
But Nicky Smirk is not only a skilled hip-hop rapper, capable of spitting an off-the-done freestyle every single day for 365 days—as he demonstrated in the SMIRK’A’THON 365 freestyle rap challenge, which started on January 1, 2019 and ended on December 31, 2019. He is also a public speaker for anti-bullying programs, a theme dear to him that he also deals with the song ‘Bully’, a single released in 2018.
Today, this 26-year-old rapper is an all-in-one and no-frills artist, who never fails to get noticed when it comes to releasing new singles and music videos, and now in 2020 he is back with a new compelling hip-hop number: ‘Trust Issues’, the first song that introduces his new album ‘The Enigma’.
“Trust Issues is about the feeling of being alone in the world and being unable to let your guard down to people who you know only want to use you for their advantage.” This is how Nicky Smirk introduces us to the theme of his latest urban banger, in which he skillfully mixes his exciting flow with captivating trap bars.
