A blend of powerful vocals and stage thrills – An exciting rollercoaster, since her debut with the EP “I Am Reeny” in 2015, she has solidified her as one of the most impressive artists in Canada.
Signing with Cymba Music Publishing in 2016 she released her debut single, “Good Girl Swag,” a song with unrelenting positivity in an increasingly harsh world.
Smith went on to win Music Nova Scotia’s African Nova Scotian Artist of the Year Award from 2015-2018, as well as a pair of East Coast Music Awards in 2019, and Best RnB Artist award in The Coast’s Best of Halifax Awards (2017 & 2018 ). She’s collaborated with artists like Quake Matthews, opened for Anderson .Paak at Halifax JazzFest, had songs featured on ten television shows (Workin Moms, Diggstown, and more), and is the voice of Tourism Nova Scotia’s newest spot.
Undoubtedly a career on the rise continues, through it all, what she says makes her most prod of, is how she has developed her craft as a songwriter, and being recognized for all the commitment, depth and realism that she he put into her work.
One of the most enthralling artists we have discovered in recent months, the delivery and reach of her vocal power is something that goes far beyond the borders of Canada alone.
Sonically in Reeny’s music reside permeance, brilliance, sweetness and bitterness, distilling a thick juice of vibrant emotion. Literally, it is something that asks you and expects to be heard.
Even her latest work does not disappoint this statement. We’re talking about “Love Trumps Money”, a gripping single co-written and produced by Nicolas Gueguen (Laurence Nerbonne, Laurent Bourque, Beat Assaillant). Written at her home studio with fellow Cymba Music label-mate, Dennis Ellsworth, the song was mixed there too, in the heart of Paris.
“A simple conversation about how money-hungry the world is turned into a song about fighting for the one thing that really matters: Love. If we put that at the forefront and everything else where it should be, the world would be in a much better place. “
The message of the song is simple as direct. Money can’t buy happiness, neither can bring peace or buy love. In a world so consumed with materialistic things, which pushes us more and more to chase false myths made of plastic, “Love Trumps Money” by Reeny Smith resonates as a warning, underlining how we’ve lost sight of the things that really matter.
An essential message to keep closer and closer, especially in these moments of uncertainty when it is even easier to fall victim to misleading suggestions.
