Singer, songwriter, and producer Brett Copeland is one who has been in the music circuit for several years, having started singing in a church choir at the age of 8, but has only recently taken up a solo career.
Following on from his previous 2019 releases ‘Don’t Fight It’ and ‘Widowmaker’, and the most recent ‘Lasso the Stars’, the latest from Copeland is the single ‘Your Paradise’.
Impressive number made of full-bodied and vibrant indie rock, “Your Paradise is the story of a young man who suffered harrowing, archaic toils during years of a brutal, undeserved incarceration and then, upon his glorious release, is suddenly thrust into its antithesis – the decadent, Dionysian spoils of the Los Angeles music scene.”
The scenography in which ‘Your Paradise’ develops is, apparently, a cryptic one, but in reality it is inspired by scenarios that Brett himself trusts to know very well. His words introduce us to a story of extreme trials and tribulations, which in the end will lead to an ultimate redemption.
And we don’t need to believe otherwise, given the organic fullness and vibrancy of the sound that flows out of ‘Your Paradise’. Here Copeland proves a terrific mastery in capturing us and dragging us on an electrifying and magnetic journey, cloaked in mysticism given by the tattered past that is the common thread for the whole piece.

The brutality of the undeserved incarceration is the lava that will come to erupt from that volcano of expressive vehemence that is Copeland, overflowing in the heaviest folds of a Rock ‘n’ Roll volcanically aimed at making explode in all its power the glory of a liberating supernova, inherent in a sort of final redemption.
Here, in the intensity and the fervor of a high-energy musical delivery, everything finds superb exaltation driven as it is by Brett’s vocal performance, and by the smart movement and dynamic arrangement.
Fun fact: in a recent interview, published on buzz-music.com, Copeland underlined how proud he is of the final result obtained on producing ‘Your Paradise’. And with good reason, we’d like to add, considering he says he wrote the whole song, note by note, on an old keyboard that he had bought for just $20!

In addition to the brilliance of Copeland’s compositional idea, credits must be given also to the contribution that comes from the instrumental performances by the artists Brett involved in the recording sessions at Matt Sorum’s Drac studios, LA.
The empowering guitars of Ramon Blanco, guitar player for Grandson, the crushing slapping bass of Dan Curcio, and the gigantic and hitting drums of Richard Bradly, drummer for Dead Posey, are the gunpowder of an explosive mixture, set on fire and shot out by the additional touch given by up-and-coming mixing engineer Joel Ferber.
With a foolproof “recording dream team” and an irresistible sound, already set for even the biggest arenas, Brett Copeland and his ‘Your Paradise’ are among the most interesting discoveries we have made in recent months on the indie-rock scene.
And never as in this case is it worth emphasizing how this label is a somewhat restrictive one, for an artist who already seems destined to go far.
